High school sports roundup (May 2)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, May 3.

Boys lacrosse

Patterson Mill 11, Perryville 3: The Huskies close the regular season 9-3. They took a 9-1 lead at halftime with Matt Bechtel and Carson Gebhard each netting three goals with one assist to lead the Huskies. RJ Wilhelm added two goals while Todd Lewis, Samir Manning and Jaydon Derrenberger all had one goal. Todd Lewis had three assists.

Marriotts Ridge 13, Liberty 2: The Mustangs (8-5) closed the regular-season with a fourth straight win. Quinn Jenkins guided the offense with four goals, while Mike Machiran added a hat trick. Mason Machiran had a goal and two assists, while Ian Murphy made 10 saves. For Liberty, Mason Ambrose scored twice while Justin Friendly made seven saves.

Centennial 16, Winters Mill 6: The Eagles (10-4) closed the regular-season with a second straight win. Aiden Krawcyzk led the offense with a team-high seven points (three goals, four assists). Cam Westlake scored a game-high five goals plus an assist, while Colby Dabbs scored four times. Both Ryan Foy and Jack Hockersmith scored twice and added an assist to round out the offense.

South Carroll 13, Catoctin 9: Three Cavaliers netted hat tricks with Brayden Yeager, Colin Abbott and Cutter Stanton each finishing with three goals. Brayden Mazalewski, Jack Laur, Cannon Hunter and Jackson Shekore all added goals. Caden Petrucci handed out to assists.

Westminster 10, Catonsville 8: Connor McNamara made 13 saves and the visiting Owls beat the Comets. Westminster was led by Jack Hitchcock (1 goal, 3 assists), Gavin Gifford (3 goals), Chase Zepp (2 goals) and Jacob Speigle (2 goals, 1 assist). The Owls led 4-3 in the first half.

Dulaney 15, Manchester Valley 7: Ryan Grogan had a game-high four goals and one assist and Ryan Dannenfelser had three goals to lead the host Lions over the Mavericks. Gabe Howard made 14 saves for Manchester Valley. Nick Grimm and Ryan Clark each scored twice for the Mavericks.

Towson 16, North Harford 3: Eleven Generals scored in the balanced win. Alex Tyler led with three goals, while Brody Donovan, Connor Parks and Fisher Putnam each scored two. Ansen Park had a goal and a team-best four assists. Hudson Arrup finished with a goal and three assists. In goal, Andrew Giordani led with 10 saves.

Girls lacrosse

Eastern Tech 10, Loch Raven 5: Emily Reese scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Mavericks. Abby Schwartz-Mitchell and Jenna Appler each finished with a goal and an assist. Also scoring were Marya Barnaba, Keira Choi, Kylee Jones, Ashley Kyle, Olivia Norman and Cayden Wilson.

Century 22, Reservoir 2: The Knights earned a dominant win as Delaney Sandbank finished with a game-high 10 points (seven goals, three assists). Natalie Opatovsky had a hat trick and two assists, while Marley Carfine also had a hat trick and one assist. Madi Prietz also scored twice for Century. For Reservoir (8-6), Paige Malwitz had a goal and assist, while Bailey Ko also scored.

South Carroll 21, Catoctin 0: Sixteen different players, including every Cavalier senior, scored in the senior night shutout. Unique Anthony scored three goals and Addie Fowble had two. Other seniors scoring were Cailin Yanke, Reese Athey, Brooke Turner, Macy Guynn, Gaby Wink and Makenna Sageman.

Francis Scott Key 21, Smithsburg 0: Drew Watkins totaled seven goals and three assists, while collecting 18 draw controls. Kelsey Zepp and Tessa Barber each scored hat tricks and each assisted on two goals. Brooke Owings and Ciannah Sinnott each scored twice, while Lily Bertier finished with a goal and three assists. Jena Stambaugh, Olivia Gugliuzza and Audrey Baugher also had goals.

Catonsville 16, Westminster 11: In the loss for the Owls, Aspen Higgs scored four goals, while Kate McAlonan had a team-best six points, evenly split between three goals and three assists. Brinley Tozer scored twice, Reese Sholkoff finished with a goal and three assists and Riley Bunting also scored.

North County 10, Old Mill 0: Mikayla Petersen made 10 saves and the host Knights shut out the Patriots.. Riley Sheets had a hat trick and Katie von Berg and Roxy Stephenson each scored twice.

Havre de Grace 14, Aberdeen 1: Landry Hudson and Addy Osborn each scored three goals to lead the host Warriors over the Eagles. Havre de Grace got two goals from Natalie Burton and Sophie Molyneux.

Softball

Rising Sun 6, Fallston 2: The host Tigers extended their one-run lead by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and fifth inning.  Abby Marmen had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double for the Cougars.

Marriotts Ridge 14, WIlde Lake 0: The Mustangs (12-4) continued to roll, winning their fifth game in a row. Brynne Mellady had a team-high three hits and an RBI. Biff Lorah added two hits and two RBIs in the win. Lorah also pitched five shutout innings, striking out seven. For Wilde Lake (1-15, 1-14), Olivia Bixler had two hits, including a double, and upping her batting average to .562 on the season.

Mt. Hebron 22, Hammond 0: The Vikings (10-5) won their third game in a row. Danielle Green, Abby Magdar and Alyssa Perez each had three hits to lead Mt. Hebron’s offense. Mt. Hebron had 15 hits in the win.

Concordia Prep 17, Bryn Mawr 13: Cassidy Young (4-for-5) had a triple, a home run and four RBIs to lead the host Saints (5-7, 4-5 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference) over the Mawrtians (3-7, 3-6). Other top performers for Concordia Prep included  Emma McGraw hit a double and drove in three runs, doubled and drove in three runs, Riley Cephas had two hits and two RBIs, and freshman Reilly Miskelly had three hits and two runs.

Baseball

Kenwood 5, Lansdowne 3: After surrendering three runs in the first inning, Kenwood’s pitching shut down the Vikings the rest of the way, while a pair of runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth gave them the win. Joe Weir threw 5 ⅔ scoreless innings giving up just one hit. Kyle Morgan had two hits and an RBI. Chase Alleyne also drove in a run.

Parkville 4, Randallstown 2: Omero Danik’s three-run double in the third inning provided the offensive punch the Knights needed to overtake the Rams. On the mound, Teddy Pineda threw a four-hitter, striking out 10.

Marriotts Ridge 8, Wilde Lake 3: The Mustangs (7-9) closed the regular-season with a fourth straight win. Barry Romero led the offense with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Zach Vernick had two RBIs, while Spencer Grams and Malcolm Parson each doubled. Wyatt Anderson won his third game of the year, pitching four innings, allowing one run.

Concordia Prep 17, Jemicy 0: Caleb Couser hit a home run and had five RBI to lead the host Saints (8-5-1, 7-5 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference) over the Moose (3-8, 3-8). He worked five innings, gave up one hit and struck out 12 for the win. Freshman Carter Milam had two doubles and six RBIs.

Severn 4, McDonogh 3: Matt Fisher hit a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning to lift the host Admirals (11-6, 10-4 MIAA B Conference) over the Eagles (11-6, 11-3). McDonogh took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. David Livingston scored on a wild pitch and Severn tied the game, 3-3, in the seventh inning.
