High school sports roundup (May 6)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, May 6.

Baseball

Manchester Valley 3, Hereford 1: Four Mavericks pitchers combined on the five-hitter to beat the Bulls. Colby Howdyshell doubled twice and drove in a run to pace the offense. Hayden Askew and Vincent Oxen also drove in runs.

Park 4, Concordia Prep 2: Jonathan Couser doubled in a run and Wyatt Brintnall also drove one home in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough for the Saints. On the mound for Concordia Prep (8-6-1, 7-6), Jordan Mentzell struck out six in a complete game.

Marriotts Ridge 12, Meade 0: The Mustangs (8-9) won their fifth game in a row as four pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter. Spencer Grams, Zach Vernick and Chase Kamerman each had two hits. Vernick had a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Kamerman, Barry Romero, Anthony Angarita and Sid Thomas each added two more RBIs.

Reservoir 3, Northeast-AA 1: Sebastian Fuentes closed the game for the Gators pitching the final five innings, allowing just one run. Cam Whitehead started the game pitching two scoreless innings, also finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. Reservoir (10-8) closed the regular-season with a second straight win.

Indian Creek 3, Glenelg Country 1: Indian Creek defeated Glenelg Country on the Dragons’ senior day. Trey Miller pitched well for the Dragons despite taking the loss, striking out 14 and allowing just three hits. Offensively for the Dragons, seniors Aidan Haack, Matthew Kim and Miller each had two hits.

Perry Hall 10, Lansdowne 9: AJ Mendoza went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Gators, while Randy Johnson, Gavin Rayner and Cameron Cooke each drove in two runs. Three pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout.

Pikesville 10, Sparrows Point 0: Michael Payne doubled, singled and drove in four runs in the Panthers’ win. Spencer Evans doubled and drove in two runs. Nick Weldon, Jackson Matz and Max Levin also had RBIs. Issac Garonzik struck out seven in four shutout innings.

Softball

Francis Scott Key 11, Bel Air 0: Jasmine Kline closed out the regular season with a five-inning two-hit shutout. She struck out five on the day. At the plate, Emma Taff went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Kendall Jackman also tripled and drove in two. Joelle Staub and Morgan Kenney also finished with two RBIs.

Havre de Grace 1, North East 0: Lilly Dalton shut down the Indians, allowing just one hit with no walks and four strikeouts in the complete game effort. Dalton also produced the game’s only run, hitting a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Sarah Weitzel in the fourth inning. Weitzel went 3-for-3.

Patterson Mill 7, Westminster 0: Savannah Reedy went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead the Huskies. Audrey March also doubled in a run in the win. In the circle, Lily Baldwin allowed two hits in four innings with three strikeouts, and Amanda Redmiles gave up one hit with four strikeouts in three innings.

Dundalk 8, Sparrows Point 7: The Owls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh with Julie Burger’s RBI single giving them the walk-off win. Makayla Woods finished with two hits and two RBIs in the win. Allie Roberts went 4-for-4 and Alexa Bienkowski had three RBIs for the Pointers.
