The Orioles have begun installation of a T. Rowe Price sign above the center field scoreboard, a source with direct knowledge tells The Baltimore Sun.
The sign, which is being installed where The Sun’s nameplate used to appear, is being put up today and will appear for the Orioles’ next home game later this month, the source said.
When The Sun sign was removed in February 2023, the team said the space was open for sponsorship opportunities. The Orioles became partners with T. Rowe Price in June introducing a jersey patch that displays the Baltimore-based investment management firm’s logo on the baseball club’s uniform sleeve.
This deal with T. Rowe Price made the Orioles at least the 20th club to add a jersey patch sponsor since MLB allowed them in 2023. The values for other clubs’ patches reportedly fall in the $5 million to $25 million range, with large-market teams like the New York Yankees on the high end.
Neither the value nor the length of the patch deal was announced in the June news release, and spokespeople for the Orioles and T. Rowe Price declined to provide the information, instead simply stating that the partnership was “multiyear.”
“We are ecstatic to enter into this partnership with T. Rowe Price and welcome them as the first organization to associate their name and brand on our uniforms,” T.J. Brightman, the Orioles’ senior vice president and chief revenue officer, said in a statement in June. “This partnership acknowledges the strong Baltimore Orioles brand, and we are elated to bring together two Baltimore institutions to positively impact our Birdland community.”
No details of the Orioles’ scoreboard sign deal with T. Rowe Price were made available Monday.
The previous sign featured a flashing “H” or “E” to indicate official scoring decisions between hits and errors. T. Rowe Price has two “Es” but no “H.”
The Sun’s sign was removed after the news organization and the Orioles couldn’t agree on a long-term deal. At the time, Sun editor and publisher Trif Alatzas said, “Due to a change in pricing, we decided to redirect our marketing dollars.”
Improvements to Camden Yards’ videoboard are expected to be part of the renovations the club will make using the $400 million in public funds it received after agreeing to a long-term lease extension.
