NEW YORK — The start time of the Orioles’ game against the New York Mets on Monday has been delayed by rain, the Mets announced just under an hour before the originally scheduled 7:10 p.m. first pitch. The team then announced the game would start at 7:20, making for one of the Orioles’ shortest delays of the season.
The grounds crew rolled out the tarp onto the field about 2 1/2 hours before the game and the clouds opened up shortly after with the occasional thunder and lightning. Precipitation was on and off for the next 90 minutes and, with the forecast predicting more rain leading up to the original start time, the Mets opted to wait it out.
Monday’s contest is the 15th game the Orioles have had delayed by weather this season; the previous 14 delays have totaled 21 hours, 21 minutes’ worth of postponements.
