High school sports roundup (Sept. 16)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Sept. 16.

Field hockey

Bel Air 10, Elkton 2: The Bobcats’ offense erupted in the win. Paige Feick had a hand in half her team’s goals, scoring two and assisting on three. Kaitlyn Carlsen finished with two goals and an assist. Julien Feurer also scored twice while Bella Leon, Alyssa Frank, Kate Gaughan and Haleigh Everngam all added goals.

Fallston 4, North East: 0: Auggie McCarthy (6) and Avery Lane (4) split time in goal and combined for 10 saves in the shutout. Olivia Parker paced the offense with two goals. Ava Meyer and Sydney Grafton also scored. Layla King and Lilly Burns each recorded assists.

Francis Scott Key 3, Walkersville 0: The Eagles move to 6-0 with the win. Audrey Baugher had a hand in each goal, scoring one and assisting on two. Nora Bachtel had a goal and an assist, while Carley Topped scored her county-best eighth goal of the year. In goal, Maddy Dehoff recorded six saves. Defender Caroline Kohr recorded two defensive saves.

Century 4, Catonsville 1: The Comets’ goal came from Jade Pannuty.

Perry Hall 2, Harford Tech 0: Brittney Hernandez and Brooks Day each scored for the Gators, while RaeLeigh Sparzak made three saves in goal to earn the shutout. Sophie Blevins and Delaney Evans dished off assists.

Spalding 4, John Carroll 1: In the loss, Josie Bianco made a career-high 21 saves for the Patriots.

Bryn Mawr 5, Severn 0: The Mawrtains awoke after a scoreless first quarter. Audrey Lutz and Addie Polakoff each scored twice in the win and Sabine Schwarts also added a goal. Addie Polakoff and Penelope Kousouris had assists. In goal, Zoe Herkalo made six saves.

Marriotts Ridge 2, Howard 0: Izzy Perry and Olivia Ober scored to lift the Mustangs in the shutout win. Peyton Albert and Mackenzie Tasch had assists.

Glenelg 8, Atholton 1: The Gladiators (2-0) earned a dominant win as Brinkley Eyre had a hat trick and an assist. Sarah Walker scored twice and added an assist, while Meghan Walker had two goals. Lakshmi Almli had a goal, while Lexi WInters had an assist.

Oakdale 4, Winters Mill 2: Cici Coco and Abby Stickles each scored for the Falcons with Kennedy Ellis assisting on both goals. Ahmya Gerald made nine saves.

Long Reach field hockey outlasts River Hill, 3-2, in double overtime

Girls soccer

Sparrows Point 4, Friends 0: Pointers goalie Ally Foos made five saves to earn the shutout and help her team improve to 3-0. Offensively, Ami Walters netted two goals and Chelsea Stubel had a goal and an assist. Allyson Forsythe also scored, while Julie Roberts, Allysa Hartman and Lilly Parks handed out assists.

Winters Mill 5, Franklin 0: Maddie Milam scored three goals, all of Hannah Neske assists, to lead the Falcons (3-0) to the win. When she wasn’t assisting, Neske was scoring herself, finding the back of the net twice.

Liberty 8, Frederick 0: Hannah DeVincent added to her Carroll County-best point total with two goals and four assists in the latest win for the Lions, now 5-0 and still haven’t allowed a goal all season. Aver Asom had two goals, while Bryce Sarver, Alyssa Golombeck, Marley Roach and Peony Kang all hit the back of the net.

South Carroll 5, Boonsboro 0: The Cavaliers spread the scoring around with five players accounting for the five goals. Ella Boyce and Mia Talley topped the team with a goal and an assist each. Abby James, Skyla Edmands and Genesis Umamzor added goals. Peyton Davis, Kelly Paul and Marisa Ossinger had assists. Sydney Mossman made three saves to earn the shutout.

Century 1, John Carroll 1: The Knights and Patriots played to a stalemate. The Patriots’ goal came from Bella Ottone of an assist from Clara Madore. Century answered with Bella Coccio sending a free kick from midfield into the box where Alaina Zeigler collected in and scored her first career goal.

Walkersville 6, Francis Scott Key 2: Camryn Gillis and Sarah Schaeffer each tallied a goal and an assist for the Eagles in the loss. Lily LaPierre made 13 saves in goal.

Boys soccer

Hereford 6, Century 1: Tyler Warfel was unstoppable on the night, putting four goals to the back of the net in the Bulls’ big nonconference win. Aaron Glickin backed him with a goal as the Bulls led 5-1 by halftime. Brayden Dull and Oliver Shive handed out assist, while Grayson Benzak made six saves in goal.

Wilde Lake 2, Guilford Park 0: Julien Gotis and Jayden Ortiz-Rivera each scored on assists from Caiden Richard and Evan Figueroa. Dylan Sutker and Eric Taylor combined for the shutout.

South Carroll 5, Boonsboro 0: Zach Anson made five saves to earn the shutout, while a balanced offense peppered the net at the other end. Five different Cavaliers — Mez Abu-Shaaban, Hayden Leineweber, Scott Sealfon, Preston Rhees and Nick Murphy — scored goals, while assists came from Cooper Hurley, Kyle Humbel, Murphy and Preston Wotchuin.

Manchester Valley 2, Dulaney 1: The Mavericks edged out the Lions for a nonconference win thanks in part to goals by Daniel Harmon and Ben Phillips. Ryan Cellitto and Ty Pease had the assists. Ty Pennewell secured the win with 10 saves in goal, aided by the defense in front of him of Brady Bonney and Brady Strohman.

Walkersville 6, Francis Scott Key 1: After trailing by just a goal at halftime, FSK couldn’t slow down Walkersville in the second half. John Rose scored for the Eagles, assisted by Owen Stewart.

St. Mary’s 3, Southern 0: The Saints improve to 4-0-1 this season. Charlie Roy and Than Souza scored goals. The third came on a Bulldogs own-goal.

Broadneck 8, Chesapeake Science Point 0: Braeden Kelly and Lewis Tippin led a balanced Bruins offense with two goals each. Jed Meehan added a goal and an assist. Erik Akhtar, Wilson Banwell and Ryan Ball also scored. Ascanio Satta, Will Epley, Mason Kaline and Brady Miller handed out assists.

C. Milton Wright 2, North Harford 0: Axel Lorentzen scored his Harford County-best fifth goal of the season and Aiden Powers backed him with one of his own in the win. Ben Mroz and Brandon Flynn had assists for the Mustangs.

Elaina Murphy leads South Carroll volleyball to 3-0 sweep of Manchester Valley

Girls volleyball

Edgewood 3, Joppatowne 0: The Rams swept the Mariners, 25-15, 25-11, 25-16.

Williamsport 3, Century 0: The Knights lost, 25-8, 25-15, 25-18. Despite the loss, Century got five kills and two blocks from Gabby Zajaczkowski and five blocks from Abhi Yadlapalli. Corinne Zepp picked up 26 digs and Trinity Savage had 17.

Boys volleyball

Patterson Mill 3, Havre de Grace 0: The Huskies cruised 25-8, 25-7, 25-11. Aidan Mackowiak led the Huskies with six kills and three aces. Dylan Lewis assisted the charge with six aces and two kills. Lucas King also scored with four kills and two aces of his own.
