High school sports roundup (Sept. 26)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Girls soccer

Western Tech 4, Chesapeake-BC 2: The Wolverines built a 3-0 lead with Juliahna Thomas scoring twice and Suzie Metcalf contributing a goal and an assist. Chesapeake came back with goals from Yazmin Williams and Taylor Ali-Robinson in the second half, but a late Wolverines goal from Rosa Mena sealed the win.

South River 6, Annapolis 0: Samie Clarke scored twice to lead the host Seahawks over the Panthers. Tierney Gentry had two assists for South River.

Harford Tech 6, Havre de Grace 0: The host Cobras took a 5-0 lead in the first half and beat the Warriors. Laney Weaver had two goals and Emily Swenson made nine saves for Harford Tech.

Howard 4, Marriotts Ridge 0: The Lions (6-0) continued to roll with four different goal scorers in the win:  Londyn Minor, Sydney Rhodes, Abby Young and Brynn Bartlett. Bartlett, Young, Rhodes and Kelsey Kartanowicz dished out assists. Bartlett has five goals in the last five games, while Young’s goal was the first of her varsity career.

Long Reach 0, Mount Hebron 0, 2OT: The visiting Vikings and Lightning played to a draw with Shyann Hansen and Emily Canseven earning the clean sheets.

North Harford 2, Patterson Mill 0: The Hawks’ first goal came when Sydney Stoneback converted a Mia Honig corner kick. The second came when Ella Morgan headed in a free kick played by Elena Ramirez. Goalie Savannah Picha had 18 saves in the shutout.

Bel Air 2, C. Milton Wright 1, OT: Ally Mace scored the game-winner with 2:59 left in overtime to lift the visiting Bobcats over the Mustangs. Savannah Barry gave Bel Air a 1-0 lead in the first half before Lanie Gunter evened the score for C.M. Wright in the second half and forced overtime. Bobcats’ goalie Emmy Schiller made four saves and Mustangs’ goalie, Jill Hatfield made six saves.

Atholton 2, Reservoir 1: The Raiders (5-1-2) won their second straight game. Josie Mitchell scored both Raiders goals in the win. For Reservoir (1-4), Madison Okechukwu scored while Giada Monti had an assist.

Winters Mill 4, Francis Scott Key 0: Hannah Neske had two goals and an assist and Maddie Milan had a goal and assist to lead the visiting Falcons over the Eagles.

Boys soccer

Pikesville 9, Owings Mills 0: Bryan Machado netted a hat trick and Hamin Oladokun had a goal to go with five assists. Ablante Fesseha, Sam Leckner, Peter Olyshko, Mark Poberesky and Anderson Marquez also scored in the win. Leckner had two assists.

Carver A&T 2, New Town 1: Bennett Laut made 14 saves in goal to secure a victory for the Wildcats. Jayden Campbell scored Carver’s first goal in the opening minutes off a Trevor Schnirel assist. Toby Skidmore added a second goal.

Northeast 4, Chesapeake Science Point 1: Cole Bielot scored three goals to lead the visiting Eagles over the Tigers. Evan Geho had a goal and Tyler Bodine had an assist for Northeast..

Broadneck 5, Arundel 0: Lewis Tippin scored two goals and TJ Remson had two assists to lead the host Bruins over the Wildcats. Broadneck took a 3-0 lead in the first half.

Field hockey

South Carroll 2, Westminster 1: The Cavaliers got goals from Megan Maynard and Rowan Miller and strong defense for the final five minutes to hold off the Owls. Olivia Carte and Dakota Clemens had assists. In goal, Caelin Lopes made four saves. Vivian Dunn scored for Westminster.

Towson 5, Fallston 2: Ryley Lavas and Scarlett Spalding each scored twice to pace the Generals in the nonconference win. Jane Shields made nine saves to secure victory. For Fallston, Sarah Gent and Sydney Grafton scored. In goal, Auggie McCarthy made five saves and Avery Lane made nine.

Crofton 7, Southern 0: Jackie Kerner and Charlotte DeForest each scored two goals and the host Cardinals shut out the Bulldogs. Crofton’s Ryleigh Osborne made 10 saves and Southern’s Rylee Catterton had 27 saves.

Broadneck 6, Arundel 0: Katelyn Kearns had two goals and two assists and the visiting Bruins shut out the Wildcats. On Tuesday, Broadneck travels to South River and Arundel travels to Severna Park.

Chesapeake-AA 3, Old Mill 1: The visiting Cougars got a goal each from Lucy Culp, Saniyah Kellerward, and Ava Hoyer and beat the Patriots. Addison Hoffman had the lone goal and Addison Guthrie made 12 saves for Old Mill.

North County 8, Severn Run 0: Roxy Stephenson and Katie Von Berg each made three goals and the host Knights shut out the Wolves.

Golf

Dulaney 139, Catonsville 163: The four Lions scorers combined to shoot 1-under par in a 24-stroke victory. Ryan Dannenfelser led the day shooting a 4-under 31. Quinn Collins added a 34, Eli Mace carded a 36 and Connor Dow shot 38.

Volleyball

South Carroll 3, Liberty 0: Pia White had seven aces and went on an 18-point scoring run to key a dominant second set for the Cavaliers in their 25-20, 25-6, 25-23 win. Taylor Berger put down nine kills in the win. For Liberty, Emme Powers had 11 kills and Paige Rubin had 18 assists.

Howard 3, Marriotts Ridge 0: McKenna Brown had 14 kills, three aces and 10 digs to lead the visiting Lions over the Mustangs. Howard won, 25-21, 25-18, 25-12. Other standouts for the Lions included Miranda Ball (15 digs, 2 aces) and Imagine Peltier (32 assists, 7 digs).

Severna Park 3, South River 1: Lizzie Ranadan had 13 kills and Gena Willis had seven kills, 13 digs and nine assists and the host Falcons beat the Seahawks. Severna Park won, 9-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.

Annapolis 3, Chesapeake-AA 0: Sophia Canuel had 21 service points, five kills and five digs and the host Panthers beat the Cougars, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18.

Broadneck 3, Glen Burnie 0: The visiting Bruins beat the Gophers. Broadneck won, 25-11, 25-15, 25-10.

Bohemia Manor 3, Fallston 0: The Cougars dropped three close sets, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21. Sam Ruth led Fallston with 12 assists and three aces. Emma Nigro had six digs and two aces. Jadin Woods led with four kills.

Bel Air 3, Perryville 0: The visiting Bobcats beat the Panthers. Bel Air won, 25-10, 25-11, 25-21.
