Towson football takes down No. 10 William & Mary, 34-27 | ROUNDUP

Here’s a roundup of state college football games played on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5:

Division I

Towson 34, William & Mary 27: Sean Brown threw a pair of touchdown passes and Branson Peters returned a fumble 78 yards for touchdown and Towson beat FCS 10th-ranked William & Mary, 34-27, in a Coastal Athletic Association showdown Saturday night.

William & Mary tied the game at 13 as time expired in the first half when Eric Bernstein converted a 24-yard field goal, but Brown put the Tigers in front for good with a 16-yard touchdown pass to John Dunmore.

The Tribe drove to the Towson 11, but CJ McClendon sacked Darius Wilson on first-and-10, stripping the ball loose for Peters to recover and race untouched for a touchdown to take a 27-13 lead.

Tyrell Greene Jr. (Kenwood) added a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 34-13 after three quarters. William & Mary scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns when Wilson caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Hollis Mathis and Malachi Imoh ran in from the 1.

Brown completed 17 of 24 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns with an interception for Towson (2-3, 1-1), which came into the game after losing back-to-back games to Villanova and North Dakota State. Greene had 15 carries for 133 yards.

Wilson completed 12 of his 25 pass attempts for 209 yards. Bronson Yoder carried 17 times for 84 yards.

Morgan State 41, Lincoln (Pa.) 0: Myles Miree had two touchdown runs and the host Bears (3-3) shut out the Division II Lions (0-5) on Saturday. Miree had 13 carries for 51 yards. Joseph Murray, Nana Asante and Jadon Carter each had six tackles for the Bears’ defense, which held Lincoln to 188 yards of total offense. Morgan State took a 6-0 lead on a 79-yard touchdown pass from Duce Taylor to Andre Crawley (Mount Saint Joseph) with 10:48 left in the first half. Crawley threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Phillips with 1:17 left in the first half. Morgan State hosts Merrimack next Saturday.

Division II

Frostburg State 49, West Virginia Wesleyan 16: Frostburg State (5-0, 3-0 Mountain East Conference) opened with a 21-0 run and routed visiting West Virginia Wesleyan (0-5, 0-3) on Saturday. Frostburg State totaled 261 rushing yards and 264 receiving yards. Myles Fulton (Old Mill) went 15-for-23 for 249 yards with three touchdowns and one interception, and Owen Doyle had nine carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns for Frostburg State.

Fayetteville State 27, Bowie State 24: John Hernandez-Vargas capped an eight play, 34-yard drive with a 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Broncos (3-2, 2-1 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) over the Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2) on Saturday. Kevin Taylor threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Antwain Banks (Edgewood) to knot the score at 24 with 1:54 left to play. The Bulldogs scored twice over 16 seconds in the second quarter to take a 17-14 lead in the first half. Taylor completed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Towler with 6:50 left in the half and Mekhi Williams recovered a fumble and ran 30 yards for a touchdown with 6:34 left in the first half.

Division III

Salisbury 42, Christopher Newport 38: Gage Katzenell-Hall threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Dario Belizaire with 2:30 left in the game and the host Sea Gulls (4-0, 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) hung on to beat the Captains (2-2, 0-1) on Saturday. The game featured 10 lead changes. Katzenell-Hall (6-for-15, 216 yards) connected with Belizaire for two touchdowns. Katzenell-Hall had nine carries for 88 yards and one touchdown.

Johns Hopkins 20, Rowan 13: PJ Penders had a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:47 left to play and the host Blue Jays (3-1) beat the Profts (2-2) on Friday. Hopkins broke a 7-7 tie when James Rinello completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Robby Enright with 8:45 left in the first half. The Blue Jays’ defense held Rowan to two field goals in the second half. Hopkins travels to Gettysburg next Friday at 7 p.m.

Gettysburg 20, McDaniel 7: The Green Terror (1-3, 0-1 Centennial Conference) took an early lead, but a second-half defensive surge carried the Bullets (2-2, 1-0) to victory on Friday. Angel Granado Jr. completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Silver (North County) and Connor Schoene (Patterson Mill) kicked the extra point for a 7-6 McDaniel lead with 11:35 left in the first half. Gettysburg answered with two interception returns for a touchdown. Nate DeLorenzo went 52 yards for a score with 6:10 left in the third quarter and Nathan LaRosa had a 30-yard return with 8:25 left in the game. The Green Terror hosts Muhlenberg next Saturday.
