The Capital Gazette is honoring one boys and one girls high school student-athlete each week as Athletes of the Week. To submit nominations, email kfominykh@baltsun.com or direct message @capgazsports on Instagram by Saturday evening.
Boys athlete of the week
Finn Mulvihill, South River, football
The Seahawks’ senior quarterback rebounded from tough losses the weeks before to steer South River to a 35-15 victory on Friday. Mulvihill tossed 16-for-23 for 303 yards with three touchdown passes.
“Finn has done a tremendous job leading our offense,” Seahawks coach Steve Erxleben said. “He gets better and more comfortable each week and is one of the reasons we are 3-2.”
Girls athlete of the week
Kendall Lee, Old Mill, volleyball
The senior outside hitter struck 17 kills and made 13 digs to down South River in a 3-1 finish last Tuesday. She totaled 12 kills, seven digs and two aces to defeat Severna Park, 3-1, on Monday — both instrumental and historic wins for the Patriots.
