Towson football falls to Stony Brook, 52-24; Johns Hopkins wins 3rd straight | ROUNDUP

Here’s a roundup of state college football games played on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Divison I

Stony Brook 52, Towson 24: The host Tigers (3-4, 1-2 Coastal Athletic Association) led twice in the first half before the Seawolves (5-2, 2-1) surged to win. Towson scored on its opening drive, as Devin Matthews rushed for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and Keegan Vaughan kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 14:49 left in the first quarter. Stony Brook answered with two scoring drives for a 14-7 lead with 3:12 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers scored twice in the second quarter on a 30-yard field goal by Vaughan and a 1-yard run by Tyrell Greene Jr. (Kenwood) for a 17-14 lead with 11:46 left in the first half. Greene finished with 115 yards and Sean Brown threw for 158 yards and was intercepted once.

Then the Seawolves put together six scoring drives that spanned both halves to pull away. Tyler Knoop threw a school-record six touchdown passes and finished 34 of 40 for 387 yards for Stony Brook.

Division II

Bowie State 54, Bluefield State 0: The host Bulldogs (2-5, 2-3 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) used a balanced offense to score 27 points per half and rout the Big Blue (1-6, 0-4). Kevin Taylor completed two of his three touchdown passes to Micah Robinson (Loyola Blakefield), including one for 56 yards. Robinson also had a 12-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs host Virginia Union next Saturday.

Charleston (W.Va.) 48, Frostburg State 7: The Golden Eagles (7-0, 5-0 Mountain East Conference) went on a 48-0 run and beat the Bobcats (6-1, 4-1). Frostburg State scored with 2:20 left in the game. Jordan Brooks (Concordia Prep) completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to KJ Smothers and Brandon Keen kicked the extra point for Frostburg State’s only score. Charleston held the Bobcats to 195 yards of total offense.

Division III

Salisbury 44, Montclair State 8: SyRus McGowan threw three touchdown passes and Dario Belizaire scored three touchdowns as the host Sea Gulls (6-0, 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) routed the Red Hawks (2-4, 0-3). McGowan connected with Belizaire twice for touchdowns of 16 yards and 37 yards and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Clark. Belizaire also had a 3-yard touchdown run. Salisbury hosts Rowan next Saturday.

Stevenson 48, Albright 3: LJ Blackwell had two rushing touchdowns in the first half to lead the host Mustangs (4-2, 4-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) over the Lions (1-5, 0-5). Blackwell finished with 12 carries for 87 yards and Nyaire Wilson threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Deion Richardson (Harford Community College) and had a 6-yard touchdown run. Stevenson went on a 24-0 run over the first three quarters. The Mustangs will travel to Eastern next Saturday.

Johns Hopkins 13, Franklin & Marshall 6: The host Blue Jays (4-1, 1-0 Centennial Conference) took the lead late in the first half and held on to beat the Diplomats (3-3, 1-2). James Rinello had a 1-yard touchdown run with three minutes left in the first half and Brad Paxton kicked the extra point for a 7-3 lead. Paxton tacked on two field goals in the second half of 34 yards and 26 yards. The win was the third straight.

Dickinson 24, McDaniel 0: Presley Egbers threw three touchdown passes to lead the host Red Devils (4-2, 1-1 Centennial Conference) over the Green Terror (1-5, 0-3). Egbers went 18-for-26 for 189 yards. McDaniel’s Angel Granado Jr. completed 8-for-19 passes for 80 yards and had two interceptions. Granado Jr. had 18 rushes for 33 yards. The Green Terror travel to Franklin & Marshall next Saturday.
