Morgan State football rallies to beat Norfolk State in OT, 38-37 | ROUNDUP

Here’s a roundup of state college football games played on Saturday, Nov. 2:

Division I

Morgan State 38, Norfolk State 37, OT: The host Bears (4-5, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) scored first in the overtime period and held off a 2-point conversion attempt by the Spartans (3-7, 1-2) to secure a comeback win.

Tahj Smith threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Coffen in the extra period for Morgan State to take the lead after kicker Sahr Gbunderna made a 47-yard field goal with 22 seconds left to force overtime for the Bears.

Norfolk State (3-7, 1-2) built a 24-3 lead minutes into the second quarter, but Smith’s 9-yard strike to Andre Crawley in the final minute of the first half made it 24-16.

Myles Miree scored from the 1 late in the third quarter to pull Morgan State within two, 24-22, after Smith’s try for a 2-point conversion fell incomplete. Jadon Carter returned a blocked a Norfolk State field goal attempt 77 yards to put the Bears in front to start the fourth quarter, 28-24. Daniels found Elyja Mitchell with a 10-yard pass midway through the period to give the Spartans their final lead, 31-28.

Smith completed 19 of 28 passes for 179 yards and rushed six times for another 38 yards to lead Morgan State (4-5, 1-1). The Bears travel to Delaware State next Saturday.

Richmond 35, Towson 24: The host Spiders (7-2, 5-0 Coastal Athletic Association) took a 9-0 lead and never trailed the Tigers (4-5, 2-3).

Sean Brown completed 18 of 30 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns, Devin Matthews (11 carries for 78 yards) and Tyrell Greene Jr. (10 carries for 32 yards) each had a rushing touchdown and John Dunmore caught a touchdown pass for Towson. The Tigers host Hampton next Saturday.

Camden Coleman threw a pair of touchdown passes to Landon Ellis to help Richmond remain tied atop the CAA. The Spiders, ranked No. 12 in the FCS coaches poll, led throughout to stay unbeaten in CAA play with Rhode Island. Richmond’s seventh straight win that came on homecoming gave the Spiders their longest winning streak and best start in the CAA since 2015.

Coleman’s 13-yard TD pass to Ellis provided the game’s first points and their 10-yard connection late in the second quarter led to a 19-10 lead at the break.

Jabril Hayes’ 90-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter made it 29-17. Hayes also recovered one of Towson’s three lost fumbles. Jeremiah Grant had three of Richmond’s seven sacks. Freshman Sean O’Haire of Ireland kicked five field goals for the Spiders, who scored on seven possessions.

Division II

Bowie State 48, Elizabeth City State 6: Micah Robinson (Loyola Blakefield) scored the first four touchdowns to lead the visiting Bulldogs (3-6, 2-4 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) in a rout over the Vikings (2-7, 0-1). Robinson had touchdown runs of 16, 9, 32 and 57 yards. The Bulldogs host Lincoln (Pa.) next Saturday at noon.

West Virginia State 38, Frostburg State 24: The host Yellow Jackets (6-3, 5-2 Mountain East Conference) scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Bobcats (6-3, 4-3). Frostburg State tied the game four times, the last on a 23-yard field goal by Harrison Fritz (Manchester Valley) to make it 24-24 with 14:57 left in the game. Jordan Marcucci had a 97-yard kickoff return to tie the game at 7 with 6:42 left in the first quarter. Frostburg State quarterback Myles Fulton (Old Mill) went 18-for-35 for 263 yards and two touchdowns.

Division III

Johns Hopkins 26, Muhlenberg 13: Carson Bourdo had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead a second-half surge by the host Blue Jays (7-1, 4-0 Centennial Conference) over the Mules (5-3, 3-2) for their fifth straight win. James Rinello threw both touchdown passes to E.J. Talarico, the second one in the fourth quarter to break a 13-13 tie with 13:45 left to play. Bourdo scored the interception return with no time left on the clock.

Salisbury 52, The College of New Jersey 35: Michael Cox had three rushing touchdowns to lead the visiting Sea Gulls (7-0, 4-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) over the Lions (5-3, 2-2). Cox had 14 carries for 50 yards and SyRus McGowan completed 9 of 13 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. The Sea Gulls tied the game at 28 with 11 seconds left in the first half before taking a 45-28 lead with 13:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham 34, Stevenson 19: The host Mustangs (4-4, 2-4 Middle Atlantic Conference) tied the game at 13 with 6:01 left in the first half before the Devils (6-2, 5-2) retook the lead for good in the closing seconds of the first half. Stevenson’s Nyaire Wilson completed his second touchdown pass, 59 yards, to Deion Richardson (Harford Community College) to tie the game. FDU-Florham answered with a 2-yard touchdown pass with one second left in the first half.

Ursinus 42, McDaniel 0: The visiting Bears (7-1, 3-1 Centennial Conference) broke a scoreless tie with a six-play, 49-yard scoring drive with 1:42 left in the first half and shut out the Green Terror (1-7, 0-5). McDaniel was held to 61 yards of total offense. The Green Terror travels to Salisbury next Saturday.
