Towson, Morgan State football secure 5th wins; Johns Hopkins clinches playoff berth | ROUNDUP

Here’s a roundup of state college football games on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Division I

Towson 27, Hampton 10: Quarterback Sean Brown threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the first quarter to lead the host Tigers (5-5, 3-3 Colonial Athletic Association) over the Pirates (5-5, 2-4).

Brown (11-for-20 for 141 yards) rushed for a 12-yard score with 5:39 left in the first quarter and later completed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Carter Runyon with 3:13 left. Keegan Vaughan made two field goals and Daniel Raymond had a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown as Towson took a 27-0 lead in the first half.

Hampton outgained Towson 286-198 and had fewer turnovers (3-2) while holding the ball for 41:55. But the Tigers scored on all four of their red zone chances while holding the Pirates to 9-for-20 on third down.

Morgan State 36, Delaware State 28: Duce Taylor threw for 218 yards and a touchdown, Jason Collins Jr. rushed for 138 yards and a score and the visiting Bears (5-5, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) beat the Hornets (1-9, 0-3).

Sahr Gbundema made his third field goal of the game, a 36-yarder, with 11:40 left in the fourth quarter to give Morgan State a 30-28 lead. Taylor later connected with Andre Crawley (Mount Saint Joseph) for an 18-yard gain on third-and-7, and Crawley ran for a 16-yard touchdown with 1:46 left for an eight-point lead.

Delaware State returned the ensuing kickoff 34 yards to its 42-yard line with 1:40 left. But Lance Byndon sealed the game with a sack of C.J. Henry on fourth-and-4 to force a turnover downs.

Myles Miree added 79 rushing yards and a touchdown for Morgan State. Henry was 22 of 27 for 294 yards and two touchdowns for Delaware State. Jaden Sutton had 19 carries for 135 yards and two scores.

Division II

Bowie State 45, Lincoln (Pa.) 7: The host Bulldogs (4-6, 3-4 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) fell behind early against the Lions (2-8, 2-6) before scoring 45 unanswered points. Bowie State was led by Kevin Taylor, who went 13-for-21 for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and Maximus Jones (Old Mill), who had three carries for 11 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with back-to-back wins.

UNC Pembroke 58, Frostburg State 17: Jordan Marcucci had a 92-yard kickoff return to tie the game at 7 for the visiting Bobcats (6-4, 4-4 Mountain East Conference) before the Braves (5-5, 5-3) pulled away. UNC Pembroke put together three scoring drives and took a 23-10 lead in the first half. The Braves finished on a 21-0 run in the fourth quarter to hand the Bobcats their fourth straight loss.

Division III

Johns Hopkins 30, Dickinson 0: Cole Peters and Oliver Craddock each made eight tackles and the host Blue Jays (8-1, 5-0 Centennial Conference) shut out the Red Devils (5-4, 2-3) to secure a share of of a record 17th Centennial Conference title and an NCAA playoff berth.

James Rinello went 9 of 15 for 137 yards and two touchdowns to help Hopkins secure a sixth straight win. Andrew Rich ran for a touchdown, Robby Enright and Cole Crotty each had a touchdown catch and Carson Bourdo returned a fumble for a score.

Salisbury 69, McDaniel 13: The host Sea Gulls (9-0) scored seven touchdowns (six rushing, one passing) to take a 49-0 lead in the first half over the Green Terror (1-8). Michael Cox (4 carries for 24 yards) and Ki’Sean Gray-Dantzler (St. Mary’s, 6 for 76) each had two rushing touchdowns for Salisbury. Jayden Booker completed 16 of 33 passes for 225 yards, one interception and one touchdown for McDaniel. Salisbury travels to Kean and McDaniel hosts Johns Hopkins next Saturday.

Stevenson 56, Misericordia 17: Nyaire Wilson threw four touchdown passes to lead the visiting Mustangs (5-4, 5-3 Middle Atlantic Conference) over the Cougars (3-6, 2-5). Wilson completed 20 of 27 attempts for 284 yards. Kirk Reed had 28 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns and one touchdown reception for Stevenson. Three other Mustangs had touchdown receptions: Deion Richardson (Harford Community College), Ryan McClain and Dillon Johnson.
