Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Dec. 20.
Girls basketball
St. Mary’s 71, Holy Cross 32: Bailey Harris scored a game-high 30 points to lead the host Saints (6-5) over the Tartans (5-3).
Westminster 43, South Carroll 29: Maddy Gassman scored 19 points to lead the host Owls (5-1) over the Cavaliers (2-3). Other scorers for Westminster included: Kole Peach (7 points), Emma Jones (6 points) and Xaviah Burgee (5 points).
Mount de Sales 41, Manchester Valley 31: Shelby Lewis scored 16 points to lead the Sailors (5-2) past the Mustangs (2-3). Emma Penzcek led the Mavericks with 11 points, six steals, four rebounds and two assists. Lilah Kresslein and Haylee Bittinger each had five points with Kresslein collecting four steals.
Chesapeake-AA 59, Annapolis Area Christian 34: The host Cougars (5-0) beat the Eagles (2-4). Chesapeake was led by Kiery Matkins (16 points), Ella Cieri (12 points), Kendall Kotofski (10 points) and Ryleigh Smoot (8 points). Anabella Taylor, Makayla Doyle-Emmerich, and Paige Stein each scored eight points for AACS.
Severn 54, Maryvale 43: Layla Epps and Amyah Heyliger each scored 15 points to lead the host Admirals (5-2, 2-0 IAAM B Conference) past the Lions (4-1, 0-1). Monday, Severn, the B-Conference leader, travels to Northeast. Next Friday, Maryvale faces City in the All About the Girls Holiday Hoops tournament.
Mt. Hebron 46, Century 43: The Vikings (4-1) won their fourth game in a row. Pearl Prasartkarnka led the way with 10 points in the win, while Anna McMillion added nine. Mt. Hebron battled back from a six-point halftime deficit.
Urbana 46, John Carroll 28: The Hawks (3-3) beat the Patriots (3-2) in the opening round of the DMV Hall of Fame Challenge tournament at Hood College. John Carroll faces New Town in Saturday’s second round of the DMV Hall of Fame Challenge at Hood College.
Boys basketball
Mt. Hebron 58, Century 51: The Vikings (5-1) won their fifth straight game. Brothers Kenny and Tai Akinlosotu led the way with 17 points each in the win. Cole Willey added 11 points.

Westminster 63, South Carroll 54: Paul Burgee scored 20 points, Tanek Zitta had 13 points and Charlie Mollman had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the host Owls (2-3) over the Cavaliers (2-2). Westminster trailed 32-29 to start the second half but took a 10-point lead in the third quarter. Next Friday the Owls travel to Sherwood and South Carroll hosts Urbana.
Gerstell 63, Concordia Prep 54: The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference Red Division leader Falcons (8-2, 2-0) beat the host Saints (5-3, 1-1). The victory was the sixth straight. Gersell was led by Victor Gray (16 points), Colin Toms (14 points), and Grant Ray ( 12 points). Next Friday the Falcons travel to Winters Mill for their Holiday Classic. On Dec. 30, Concordia Prep travels to Archbishop Curley.
Howard 76, Chesapeake-AA 39: The Lions (6-0) continued their undefeated start to the season led by 25 points from Griffin Garner and 19 from Alex Reeb.
