Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Girls basketball
Westminster 47, Century 27: The Owls bounced back from suffering their first county loss Friday with a big win. Maddy Gassman had 16 points and Emma Jones chipped in 10.
South Carroll 43, Liberty 22: The Cavaliers put together what coach Ryan Hutchinson called “a fantastic defensive effort” to pick up the county win over the Lions. Leah Miller and Charlotte Harrington led the way with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Kendall Curtin added nine points.
Francis Scott Key 52, Manchester Valley 27: The host Eagles (9-2) won their third straight. The Mavericks (5-3) were led by Emma Penczek (8 points, 5 rebounds), Brynn Bauer (7 points, 4 steals), Lilah Kresslein (5 points 3 rebounds 2 assists) and Taylor Fique (6 rebounds 5 steals).
Edgewood 67, Rising Sun 52: Sam Donovan poured in 28 points to lead the Rams to the win. She also totaled six assists and three steals. Jael Erickson was right behind her offensively with 26 points to go with seven rebounds. Lilly Smeltzer was tops on the glass with nine rebounds. Jazmyne Jordan chipped in seven rebounds and four assists.
Fallston 51, Bel Air 14: The visiting Cougars (7-3) beat the Bobcats (1-5). Fallston was led by Brooke Bolesta (10 points, 10 rebounds), Simone Smalls (8 points), Sarah Gent (8 points), Natalie Wirth (6 points) and Jadin Woods (6 points).
C. Milton Wright 39, Joppatowne 22: Emma Jankowiak led the Mustangs with 11 points in the win. Jordan Mill and Sam Wolfkill had strong nights inside, Miller finishing with10 points and eight rebounds, while Wolfkillhad eight points and a team-best 12 rebounds.
Aberdeen 66, Bohemian Manor 24: Nyjah Harris scored 21 points and Marissa Heil-Coleman had 11 points to lead visiting Aberdeen over Bo Manor. Other top scorers for Aberdeen included: Kennae White (9 points) and Amara Armstrong (7 points).
Elkton 39, Harford Tech 29: The host Cobras put together a late rally that came up short against the Golden Elks. Harford Tech was led by Riley Mullenax (14 points, 7 steals, 3 blocks, 3 rebounds), Ciara Smith (5 points, 3 steals, 4 blocks) and Delaney Klaus (8 rebounds, 1 point, 1 block).
Perry Hall 50, Chesapeake-BC 45: The Gators got a balanced effort in the win. Belen Ros had a team-high 12 points. She was followed closely by Emily Rennie with 10 points to go with seven assists and six steals. Tammy Tan totaled eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Tamiya Brown chipped in nine points. Chesapeake’s Morgan Young had a game-high 24 points.
St. John’s Catholic 57, Chesapeake-AA 38: Samantha Shively (21 points) and Olivia Bolduc (17 points) each reached their 1,000th career point and the Vikings (2-8) beat the host Cougars (10-1). Chesapeake was led by Ryleigh Smoot (12 points, 7 rebounds), Ella Cieri (10 points) and Kiery Matkins (9 points, 8 rebounds).
Broadneck 55, Northeast 11: Macie McNece scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Bruins over the host Eagles (3-4). Broadneck went on a 22-2 run in the second quarter to pull away. Friday Northeast hosts Crofton. Next Tuesday the Bruins host Annapolis.
Severna Park 39, Southern 25: Naomi Batty netted 10 for the Falcons, while Huntyr Marks led Southern with 12 points.
Meade 41, Glen Burnie 40: Sanaya Moore hit the game-winning basket for the Mustangs. Maya Speight netted 14 points and Jas Dailey collected 12 rebounds.

Boys basketball
Liberty 74, South Carroll 50: Tristan West scored 22 points and Jayden Zumbrun backed him with 19 as the Lions bounced back after a loss Friday. For South Carroll, Micah Puckett and Benson Summerfeldt each scored 12.
Broadneck 70, Northeast 50: Ashton Sellman scored 22 points to lead the host Bruins (7-3) over the Eagles (4-6). Other top scorers for Broadneck included: Liam Sabo (19 points) and Kamari Williams (18 points).
Meade 77, Glen Burnie 67: Keon Scott scored 23 points to lead the host Mustangs (8-3, 4-0 Anne Arundel) over the Gophers (5-2). The victory was the sixth straight.
North County 60, Crofton 57: Ethan Collett led the Cardinals in the loss with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Miles Denton chipped in with 13 points, while Timmy Brown had 10 assists.
Patterson Mill 55, Aberdeen 38: The visiting Huskies beat the Eagles. Patterson Mill was led by Colin Luddy (19 points), James Kropp (14) and Kai Gibson (12 points). Kellan Dennis had 10 points for Aberdeen.
Swimming
Fallston 173, Patterson Mill 122: For the Huskies, Gabriella Eraso and Joseph Sauer both took first place in the 200-yard individual medley. Graicyn Gontasz took second place in the 500-yard freestyle.
Wrestling
Manchester Valley 56, North Harford 18: In the big nonconference win, the Mavericks got pins from Kayden Reid (106 pounds), Joey Day (113), Kyle Reid (120), Dakota Barnard (132), Beau Snell (144) and Brayden VanDerVoort (150). Dylan Brown (165) and Cru Boog (285) earned technical falls and Ryan Hydorn got a major decision. North Harford picked up a pin from Holden Young (215).
Dundalk 54, Lansdowne 29; Dundalk 65, Severn Run 18: The Owls swept a tri-meet with one county win and one nonconference win. They improve to 10-1 overall and 8-0 in Baltimore County. On senior night, Dundalk’s three senior wrestlers each went 2-0. Richard Vargas had two pins, Isaiah Robinson had one pin and Andre Andrades had a pin and a technical fall.
