Boys athlete of the week
Adam Sexton, Severn Run
Sexton became the first indoor track county champion in the school’s history by winning the 55-meter dash in 6.6 seconds at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex on Thursday. He also finished second in the 300m.
“Every day at practice, he shows up ready to work with a positive attitude,” Severn Run coach Tim Rider said. “Adam is the epitome of a student-athlete. He embodies the culture that we are trying to create here at Severn Run. and always brings a team first mentality every day.”
Girls athlete of the week
Charlotte DeForest, Crofton
The senior provided extremely necessary late points to help lift her Cardinals girls team to its first county title, edging out Severna Park. She won the girls long jump, leaping 17 feet, 1/2 inch — a season best and school record — and the triple jump (35-3 3/4), as well as finishing second in the pole vault.
“Thriving under the intensity, she delivered one of her best triple jumps of the season, winning the event and scoring 10 points for the team. And at the same time, she also had to focus on the pole vault, Charlotte achieved another personal best and broke her previous school record,” Cardinals coach Stacy Severtson said. “In total, Charlotte contributed an incredible 28 points, playing a crucial role in helping her teammates clinch their first-ever county championship. Her determination, skill, and composure under pressure were nothing short of extraordinary.”
