Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, Feb. 13.
Boys basketball
North Harford 82, Rising Sun 69: Zach Mullins posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks. Mason Harvey backed him with 20 points. Demetrious Densmore totaled 15 points, five assists and five steals to help the Hawks (10-10) get back to .500 on the season.
Joppatowne 57, Elkton 54: The host Mariners beat the Golden Elks. Joppatowne had three players in double-digit scoring: Phil Clark (19 points), Anthony Council (17 points) and Kishann Smith (13 points). Smith and Braxton Jackson each pulled down 10 rebounds. Jackson also had four assists.
Harford Tech 55, Bel Air 46: The Cobras trailed 29-17 at halftime, but rallied back to claim the win. Zach Lane posted a game-high 21 points for the Cobras. Mateo Hiett backed him with 11 points and six rebounds, Jalil James had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Levi Ridley finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Fallston 66, Perryville 51: The Cougars raced out to a 21-7 first-quarter lead and cruised to the win. Oliver Schamburg led the win with 17 points. Elijah Pearce and Logan Sweitzer each scored nine. Joey Gross and John Wirth each chipped in eight. Johnny Chandler finished with seven.
Mt. Hebron 81, Reservoir 62: The Vikings (14-1, 9-0 Summit Division) earned a 13th straight county victory. Both Nick Ettiene and Cole Willey scored 16 points to lead the way. Kenny Akinlosotu added 13 while Doug Cohen added 12. For Reservoir (7-8, 4-4 Summit), Channing Wade had 17 points.
Glen Burnie 64, Severna Park 58: Braedon Buchanan compiled 27 points and eight rebounds to spur the Gophers (10-7) past Severna Park. Jordan Dailey also sunk four 3-pointers and tallied 17 points.
Severn 65, Indian Creek 51: Ben Hilburn scored 19 points to lead the visiting Admirals (17-5, 12-1 MIAA B Conference Black Division) over the Eagles (6-13, 4-9). The win was the ninth straight. Nick Parris had a game-high 26 points for Indian Creek.
Old Mill 66, Crofton 52: Miles Denton scored 21 points and Tayden Gantt had 11 points, but the Cardinals fell to the Patriots.
Annapolis Area Christian 49, Archbishop Curley 45: Kendrick Tche-Tafon scored 15 points and Julian Kelly had 11 points to lead the host Eagles (17-4, 12-1 MIAA B Conference Black Division) over the Friars (10-14, 5-9).
Loyola Blakefield 59, McDonogh 52: The visiting Dons (15-10, 9-9 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference Red Division) bounced back from Friday’s loss to Mount Carmel. Loyola was led by Mason Ellison (21 points), Terry Brooks (14 points) and Jesse Legree (10 points). The Eagles (16-8, 4-7) were led by Carlos Ferguson with 14 points and Jeff Exinor and BJ Hopkins, who each scored 10 points.
Gerstell 66, Chapelgate Christian 51: Grant Ray scored a game-high 17 points and Colin Toms had 13 points to lead the host Falcons (7-5, 7-5 MIAA B Conference Red Division) over the Yellow Jackets (3-12, 2-10). Jonah Ludwig had 12 points and Justin Davis had 11 points for Chapelgate. Gerstell led 32-22 in the first half. The win was the fourth straight.
Mount Carmel 80, St. Vincent Pallotti 44: The visiting Cougars (27-4, 13-2 MIAA A Conference Red Division) beat the Panthers (10-18, 2-13). Mount Carmel was led by Tristen Wilson (22 points), Ralph Rudasans (10 points) and Junior Mancho (10 points). Friday the Cougars host Calvert Hall.
Girls basketball
Westminster 59, Winters Mill 39: Maddy Gassman scored 15 points and Brinley Boag had 11 points to lead the host Owls over the Falcons, in the process clinching the outright Carroll County championship. Other contributors for Westminster included Ryann Doolan (5 points) and Addyson Ruth (2 points).
Oakland Mills 60, Marriotts Ridge 27: The visiting Scorpions beat the Mustangs. Marriotts Ridge was led by Freshman Katie Moraz and Peyton Albert each with six points.
Aberdeen 47, Elkton 31: Nyjah Harris scored a game-high 24 points to lead the visiting Eagles over the Golden Elks. Harris added six rebounds, three assists and five steals to her totals. Aberdeen’s Kennae White had eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
North Harford 52, Havre de Grace 37: Emily Signor led the win with 15 points and Payton Dinbokowitz chipped in 11.
Patterson Mill 48, Edgewood 47: The visiting Huskies evened the score and beat the Rams. The Huskies lost 65-44 to Edgewood on Monday. Thursday the Rams were led by Jael Erickson (22 points) and Samiyah Head (12 points).
North East 34, Harford Tech 30: Riley Mullaney scored 18 points, but the visiting Cobras fell. Mullaney also had eight rebounds and three steals. Other standouts for Harford Tech included: Faith Orsini (5 points, 5 rebounds), Brenna Olmstead (3 assists, 2 steals, 8 rebounds) and Delaney Klaus (4 points, 6 rebounds).
Severna Park 54, Glen Burnie 31: Charley Coward netted 23 points in the victory for the Falcons (11-7). Maria Bragg and Peyton Jeffers each had 8 points.
Wrestling
Old Mill 58, Northern-Calvert 7: The Patriots (25-7) advanced to Friday’s 3A East Region semifinals thanks to a string of falls from Keon Gavin (126 pounds), Khi Church (132). Mohammed Rahmanni (138), Ruben Salas (157), Dominick Hurley (175), Darmitri Looney (215) and Austyn Bunn (285). Anthony Faulkner (144) also claimed a major decision, while Brandon Womack (113) and Noel Norman-Williams (190) won by decision.
Chesapeake 65, Northeast 16: Cohen Lare (144), Collin Richardson (165), Dean Michael (190) and Jonas Dotson (285) all recorded pins for Chesapeake, which advances to the Class 3A East Region semifinals on Friday. Matthew Curtin (175) got a tech fall for Chesapeake, too.
