High school sports roundup (Feb. 14)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Feb. 14.

Girls basketball

Crofton 48, Meade 31: The host Cardinals beat the Mustangs. Tuesday Crofton travels to Chesapeake-AA and Meade hosts Old Mill.

Carver A&T 49, Franklin 28: The host Wildcats beat the Indians. On Feb. 24, Carver A&T travels to Owings Mills.

Glenelg 62, Guilford Park 40: The Gladiators (8-8, 4-5 Summit Division) built a 17-point halftime lead in the victory. MJ Dabiri spearheaded the offense with 18 points, while Ashlin Cornelius added 12. For Guilford Park (1-12, 1-7 Summit), Audrey Morrison-Lang had 17 points.

Manchester Valley 45, South Carroll 40: Lilah Kresslein led the Mavericks (12-7, 8-4 Carroll County) with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Emma Penczek backed her with 12 points, five steals and two assists. Taylor Fique chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.

Westminster 49, Liberty 34: The Owls got 16 points from Xaviah Burgee as they topped the Lions. Maddy Gassman added 12 points and Kole Peach chipped in six.

Severna Park 50, Arundel 33: The visiting Falcons took a 30-7 lead in the first half and outlasted the Wildcats.

Harford Tech 52, Joppatowne 26: Faith Orsini scored 14 points to lead the host Cobras over the Mariners.  Orsini also had seven rebounds and a block Other standouts for Harford Tech included: Riley Mullenax (11 points, 5 steals, 2 rebounds, 3 assists), Ciara Smith (9 points,  5 rebounds, a steal, 3 assists), Freshman Anna Stearns (8 points, 8 rebounds) and Sadie Larkins (6 rebounds).

Atholton 46, Long Reach 13: The Raiders (7-9, 2-6 Sierra Division) earned a lopsided division win. For Long Reach (5-11, 1-7 Sierra), Haley Ruddy finished with six points and 13 rebounds.

Centennial 50, River Hill 41: The Eagles (8-9, 5-3 Sierra Division) avenged an early season defeat to the Hawks and handed them their first division loss of the season. Tatiana Machiz led the way with 16 points, while Abby Porter finished with 14. For River Hill (12-4, 7-1 Sierra), Dylan Watson scored 15 points.

Reservoir 48, Hammond 32: The Gators (14-1, 8-1 Summit Division) won their 11th straight county game and swept the season series with the Golden Bears. Alissa Young scored a team-high 15 points in the win, while Sam Feher chipped in 14. For Hammond (8-9, 3-6 Summit), Sara Yarnell finished with a game-high 17 points and also eclipsed 1,000 career points.

Howard 54, Wilde Lake 42: The Lions (13-4, 6-2 Sierra Division) finished with three double-digit scorers in the win and swept the season series with the Wildecats. Kadirah Carroll led the charge with 15 points, while both Kelsey Wimmer and Alana Harrison scored 12. For Wilde Lake (7-9, 3-6 Sierra), Quinn Corkeron tied a game-high with 15 points, while Maggie Shidle chipped in 12.

Boys basketball

Aberdeen 63, Havre de Grace 49: McKinley Turner and Cameron Allen-Jones each posted double-doubles in the Eagles’ win. Turner finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds; Allen-Jones totaled 10 points and 15 rebounds. Kellan Dennis had 13 points and four assists and Dom Hyer chipped in 12 points. Josiah Lawrence scored 23 points for the Warriors.

Patterson Mill 71, North East 27: The host Huskies beat the Indians. Patterson Mill had four players in double-digit scoring: Colin Luddy (14 points), James Kropp (13 points), Kai Gibson (12 points) and James Hammond (12 points).

John Carroll 65, Boys’ Latin 61: Aidan Able and Andrew Clark each scored 17 points to lead the host Patriots (16-12, 7-8 MIAA A Conference Black Division) beat the Lakers (10-12, 5-11)  John Carroll’s Caden Chinnia-Falline had 16 points and Theartis Battle had 11 points.

Hereford 61, Pikesville 45: The Bulls (10-10) moved to .500 on the season with the win. Tanner Diehl and Joe Daw each scored 16 points in the win. For Pikesville, Jean-Marc Nken and Jonah Matz each scored 15.

Mt. Hebron 80, Marriotts Ridge 68: The Vikings (15-1, 10-0 Summit Division) clinched the Summit Division title and a county championship berth with the win. Cole Willey led the charge with 22 points, while Tai Akinlosotu added 11. Both Kenny Akinlosotu (11) and Ezra Yauger (10) scored in double figures. For Marriotts Ridge (9-7, 5-3 Summit), Res Whitaker finished with a game-high 25 points. Both Blake Willingham and Rahul Jampan added 11.

Hammond 75, Reservoir 49: Sam Baig scored 26 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Bears over the host Gators. Other standouts for Hammond included Jackson Givens (16 points) and Adel Brown (13 points).  Joshua Jones had 10 points for Reservoir.

Wilde Lake 86, Howard 73: The Wildecats (12-4, 8-1 Sierra Division) moved into first place in the division with the win over the Lions. Devin Wingfield led Wilde Lake in a well-balanced attack with 26 points, while Noah Brazil added 23. Dre Hoskins scored 21, while Jasiah Hyson chipped in 10. For Howard (13-5, 6-2 Sierra), Josh Ademiju scored 20 points. Joe Hill (18), Griff Garner (14) and Jamie Del Rosso-Freeman (10) also scored in double figures.

Long Reach 63, Atholton 60: The Lightning (4-13, 2-7 Sierra Division) spread the wealth with four double-digit scorers. Daniel Best (18 points) led the way, followed by Jay’Qwan Colvin (17), Xavier Weston (11) and Seth Rosenfeld (10). For Atholton (10-6, 4-4 Sierra), Isaiah Johnson scored a team-high 14 points. Cam Lyons chipped in 12.

Glenelg 53, Guilford Park 46: The Gladiators (8-8, 5-4 Summit Division), Ty Jenkins finished with a team-high 19 points. Steven Mbuyamba added 16, while Siyi Jolayemi chipped in 10. For Guilford Park (5-12, 2-7 Summit), Shawn Dupont scored a game-high 21 points.

Glenelg Country 68, Mount Saint Joseph’s 58: The Dragons (18-6, 13-3 MIAA A Conference Black Division) clinched the division title with the win. Donovan Marshburn led the way with 24 points, half of which came in the second quarter. Pat Curtin added 23 for Glenelg Country who built on a four-point halftime lead.

Linganore 68, Towson 53: The visiting Generals fell to the Lancers. Towson was led by Jeremiah Harris (11 points), Seven Wheeler (10 points) and Korey Collins (9 points).

Mount Carmel 75, Calvert Hall 66: The host Cougars (28-4, 14-2) beat the Cardinals (12-18, 4-12) and clinched the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference regular-season title and the top seed in the league playoffs. Mount Carmel was led by Tristen Wilson (18 points), Junior Mancho (17 points) and Gage Howard (11 points). The win was the fourth straight.

Westminster 51, Winters Mill 42: The Owls built a 27-19 lead in the first half and cruised to the win over their crosstown rivals. Charlie Mollman posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, while also totaling four assists and five blocks. Tanek Zitta had a team-high 16 points. Will Mollman finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

North County 58, Broadneck 55: Ashton Sellman scored 24 points and Drew Cahall had 12 points, but the host Bruins fell to the Knights.

St. Mary’s 64, Indian Creek 54: The Saints (14-13, 7-6 MIAA B Conference Black Division) beat the host Eagles (6-14, 4-10). Indian Creek was led by Nick Parris (21 points , 12 rebounds, 5 assists , 4 steals).

St. Frances 73, Loyola Blakefield 65: Trent Egbiremolen scored 26 points and Terrence Jones had 22 points to lead the host Panthers (26-6, 12-3 MIAA A Conference Red Division) over the Dons (18-15, 7-8). With the win, St. Frances tied Archbishop Spalding for second place in the league. Loyola was led by Jesse Legree (26 points), Terry Brooks (14 points) and Mason Ellison (10 points).

South River 70, Southern 57: Jamie Finn dropped 23 points and Jaden McDuffie had 22 in the victory. Jonah Hall added 11.

Severn 56, AACS 51: Sean Harvey netted 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for the Admirals. DJ Lee added 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while Daniel Growney scored 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jacob Randall had 10 points and three rebounds. For AACS, Eli Croskey had 14 points.
