Boys basketball
Joppatowne 45, Lake Clifton 40: The host Mariners beat the Lakers in a Class 1A North Section II region semifinal. Joppatowne led 25-16 in the first half. The Mariners were led by Kishann Smith (18 points) and Anthony Council (15 points). Council added four steals and four assists. Braxton Jackson grabbed nine rebounds.
Patterson Mill 54, Havre de Grace 43: The Huskies got 15 points each from Kai Gibson and Colin Luddy to win their 1A North Region II final. James Kropp added 10 points and James Hammond chipped in eight. The Huskies next play Joppatowne in Thursday’s regional final.
Elkton 69, Harford Tech 51: The Golden Elks pulled away from the Cobras after only leading by four after three quarters. Harford Tech was led by Aaron Wilson with 16 points and seven rebounds. Mateo Heitt finished with nine points and four rebounds. Karon Evans, Nolan Reachard and Levi Ridley had seven points each.
Liberty 67, Smithsburg 50: Tristan West scored 22 points and Jayden Zumbrun backed him with 18 as the Lions won their 1A West Region II semifinal. Liberty, the region’s top seed, will host second-seeded South Carroll in Thursday’s region title game.
Linganore 70, Westminster 53: The Owls fell behind 22-5 after the first quarter and couldn’t claw back in their regional semifinal. Shae Greenwood led Westminster with 17 points and six rebounds. Charlie Mollman posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Southern-AA 52, Wilde Lake 48: The 2A West Region II three-seed Bulldogs won at the second-seeded Wildecats. Daniel Lewis scored 14 points to lead the win. Ethan Sheffey was right behind him with 13 points while also grabbing eight rebounds. Rex Wooster pulled down 12 boards and blocked four shots.
Meade 71, Crofton 24: The Mustangs cruised to their 19th win in a row with a win in the 4A East Region I semifinals. They will host Glen Burnie on Friday in the championship game. Sophomore Arouna Soumaoro led the attack with 15 points and eight rebounds, while senior James Johnson totaled 11 points and five rebounds. Keon Scott chipped in with 10 points, eight assists and three steals.
Leonardtown 71, Broadneck 59: The Bruins were led in their final game by Kamari Williams, who scored 14 points. Liam Sabo netted 12 points while both Drew Cahall and Kemarri Collison each netted nine points.
South River 70, JM Bennett 61: The Seahawks achieved their best record in program history (20-3) by downing Bennett in the 3A East Region I semifinals. Jamie Finn spurred the attack with 25 points, while Jonah Hall had 21. Jaden McDuffie netted 13 points.
Atholton 61, Long Reach 40: The No. 2 seed Raiders (12-8) advanced to Thursday’s Class 3A South Region II final at top-seed Centennial. Both Cam Lyons and Isaiah Johnson led the way in the win with 16 points. For Long Reach (5-17), Xavier Weston scored 11 points, while Seth Rosenfeld scored 10.
Old Mill 81, Howard 78: Second-seeded Old Mill outlasted Howard in a Class 3A South Region I semifinal. Old Mill advances to face top-seed Mt. Hebron on Thursday. For Howard (17-5), Joe Hill scored a team-high 25 points, while Griff Garner added 18. Josh Ademiju also scored 14 points for Howard.
