“Couldn’t be prouder of Ashton and the way he stepped up this week in our two biggest games of the season,” coach Mike Glick said. “He played his best games in the biggest moments. Overjoyed to see his hard work, pay off and translate into an outstanding performance in crunch time.”

Girls athlete of the week

Sophia Hodges, Northeast, wrestling

After two seasons of settling for bronze, the 135-pound junior completed her season with her first state title, enacting vengeance for her second-place finish at the Class 4A/3A East Region championships — her first loss of the season — by dealing Quince Orchard’s Aubry Spadoni, the defending state champion, her own first defeat by 6-2 decision.

“Her journey to this year’s championship is a testament to her unwavering commitment and hard work,” Eagles coach Chris Dyke said. “Sophia’s dedication not only highlights her personal growth but also brings pride to the Northeast community. Her story serves as an inspiration to fellow athletes, emphasizing the rewards of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.”
