Here’s the weekly roundup of men and women’s state college lacrosse games.
Division I men
No. 5 Johns Hopkins 11, No. 12 Georgetown 9: The visiting Blue Jays (2-1) went on a 7-3 run to pull ahead of the Hoyas (0-2) on Saturday. Garrett Degnon scored four goals for Hopkins. Graham Bundy Jr. and Aidan Carroll each had three goals for Georgetown. The Blue Jays will host Loyola Maryland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Towson 15, Mount St. Mary’s 5: Joaquin Villagomez (Severna Park) had five goals and two assists and Maryland transfer Nick DeMaio had three goals and three assists to lead the host Tigers (1-1) over the Mountaineers (0-2) on Saturday. Towson built an 8-2 lead in the first half and did not give up more than two goals in any quarter. Cormac Giblin had two goals and an assist for the Mount.
No. 5 Johns Hopkins 13, Towson 5: The host Blue Jays held the Tigers scoreless over the final 21:26 and went on a 7-1 run in the second half Tuesday. Hopkins got hat tricks from Jacob Angelus, Hunter Chauvette and Garrett Degnon. Mikey Weisshaar (Archbishop Spalding) scored twice for Towson.
Division III men
Salisbury 17, Grove City 11: The host Sea Gulls (2-0) strung together 12 goals from the first quarter to the third and beat the Wolverines (0-1) on Saturday. Luke Nestor and Joe Carozza each had a hat trick for Salisbury.
St. Mary’s 18, Southern Virginia 6: The host Seahawks (1-0) used a 6-1 run in both the second and fourth quarters to build a lead over the Knights (0-1) on Saturday. Joshua Martel (North County) scored four goals and Nate Hochrein (Towson) had three goals for Salisbury. Cullen McKay made 11 saves.
Salisbury 29, Berry (Ga.) 6: The Sea Gulls opened with an 8-1 run and routed the Vikings (0-1) in Concord, North Carolina, on Sunday. Salisbury was led by Riley Strub (4 goals), Jack Dowd (3 goals, 4 assists), Brice Bromwell (3 goals, 3 assists) and Joe Carozza (3 goals, 2 assists).
Division I women
No. 8 Loyola Maryland 18, No. 10 Florida 10: The host Greyhounds (1-0) used an 8-2 run to break a first-half tie at 4 and beat the Gators (0-1) on Saturday. Loyola was led by Georgia Latch with a game-high six goals, Sydni Black with four and Anna Ruby (Westminster) with three. Maggi Hall (Bel Air) scored five goals for Florida.
Towson 14, Mount St. Mary’s 10: Milana Zizakovic scored a career-high six goals to lead the host Tigers (1-0) over the Mountaineers (0-1) on Saturday. Zizakovic scored at least one goal in each of the four quarters. Towson led 6-3 in the first half. MacKenzi Furlong had a hat trick for Mount St. Mary’s.
UMBC 20, Delaware State 2: Lauryn Warfield (North Harford) had 13 draw controls and Kolby Weedon (Catonsville) had five goals and three assists as the host Retrievers (1-0) routed the Hornets (0-1) on Saturday. Other top scorers for UMBC included Libby Staples with three goals and two assists and Grace Bruce (Century) with three goals. The Retrievers held Delaware State scoreless in the second half.
No. 9 Maryland 16, Saint Joseph’s 3: The visiting Terps (1-0) opened with a 10-0 run and beat the Hawks (0-1) on Friday. Maryland has won 17 of its past 18 season openers and three straight over Saint Joseph’s. Eloise Clevenger (Marriotts Ridge) had seven assists for the Terps.
No. 14 Johns Hopkins 14, Albany 10: The visiting Blue Jays (1-0) used a 5-0 run that spanned both halves to build a lead against the Great Danes (0-1) on Friday. Abbey Hurlbrink (Bryn Mawr) scored a game-high four goals for Hopkins, which travels to Siena on Sunday.
No. 25 Navy 10, No. 24 Duke 9: The host Mids (1-0) weathered a 6-0 run by the Blue Devils (1-0) over the final 21 1/2 minutes to win Friday. Navy’s Emily Messinese (Gerstell) scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter and finished with a hat trick. Duke’s Katie DeSimone had a hat trick as well, scoring twice during the 6-0 run.
Division III women
Salisbury 20, Stevenson 7: The visiting Sea Gulls (1-0) extended their three-goal lead with a 7-0 run to start the second half Saturday. The Mustangs fell to 0-1. Erin Scannell (John Carroll) and Miranda Mears each had three goals for Salisbury. Stevenson got two goals each from Erin Steinberg (Towson), Kara Yarusso and Isabelle VanEmburgh.
