Shyanne Sellers, Allie Kubek and Jakia Brown-Turner each had a double-double as Maryland women’s basketball beat host Illinois, 69-53, on Sunday afternoon in Champaign to sweep the season series.

Sellers had a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, Kubek scored 13 points and grabbed 10 boards off the bench, and Brown-Turner added 11 points and 10 rebounds on her birthday for the Terps, who had three players get double-doubles in a game for the first time since Dec. 19, 2020. Lavender Briggs added 15 points off the bench for Maryland, which has won two straight games for the first time since defeating Towson and James Madison on Dec. 12 and 20.

The 53 points allowed are the third-fewest Maryland (14-10, 6-7 Big Ten) has allowed this season and the fewest against a conference foe. The Terps shot 45% from the field and held Illinois (11-12, 5-8), which had won three of its previous four games, to 31.8% shooting and 23.1% from 3-point range.

After leading by five at halftime and seven after three quarters, Maryland pulled away in the fourth. Briggs made a 3-pointer midway through for a 58-48 lead and followed with a layup on the next possession. Faith Masonius made two free throws and dished one of her three team-high assists to Sellers, whose jumper with 2:43 left made it 64-48. Sellers had 11 points in the fourth and finished 6-for-12 from the field.

Despite losing the turnover battle 19-11, the Terps scored 17 points off Illinois’ turnovers — the Fighting Illini had just 11 — and outrebounded them 47-33. Camille Hobby led Illinois with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
