Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, March 25.
Baseball
Hereford 7, Magruder 2: The Bulls struggled through five innings but turned things around with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kreis Metz singled in two runs, while Jack Kinsey, Leighton Alsip, Daniel Metz and Andrew Larkin all picked up RBIs. Andrew Smith and Gavin Jacker combined to throw a two-hitter.
Harford Tech 20, Edgewood 5: Zach Lane had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Cobras’ offensive onslaught. Aiden Sullivan doubled, singled twice and drove in a run.
C. Milton Wright 7, North Harford 2: The Mustangs built separation with three runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Landon Melnick had two hits and two RBIs. Kevin Emerson, Tyler Adamo and Gavin Miller all drove in runs.
Gilman 4, John Carroll 2: A four-run fourth inning was the difference in the Greyhounds’ win. For John Carroll, Miguel Leon had two hits and an RBI. Luca Santoro also drove in a run.
Chesapeake 10, Glen Burnie 0: Carter Drab threw four shutout innings, while offensively he doubled and drove in four runs. Jimmy Dreyer had three hits including a double, and Carson Phillips drove in two runs.
Broadneck 7, Annapolis 5: Sophomore Jack Miteff earned his first varsity win going five innings, scattering seven hits and giving up two earned runs. Miteff struck out five and walked none. Noah Forman had a grand slam and Devin McGowan added a two-run home run.
Reservoir 10, St. Vincent Pallotti 0: Gavin Metrick pitched four shutout innings, striking out eight and allowing just one hit. Cole Folkenberg struck out four in the final two innings, also allowing just a hit. Metrick and Cameron Whitehead spearheaded the offense each with two hits.
Glenelg 4, Manchester Valley 1: Logan Pusheck led the offense with a bases clearing double, as Zach LaFountain also had a double. Nick Bilotto earned the win, pitching six innings and striking out eight, while James Wescott secured the save.
Hammond 9, Winters Mill 7: The Golden Bears used a five-run third inning to spark the offense in the win. Julio Jimenez, Manny Powell, Jackson Wilder and Kevin Barry each had two hits to lead the offense in the win.
Westminster 12, River Hill 10: Clayton Dorsey had two hits, including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that plated the winning runs. Will Mollman added three RBIs for the Owls (3-0).
Softball
C. Milton Wright 12, Edgewood 4: Izzy Youngworth struck out 17 batters and drove in three runs offensively to lead the Mustangs. Kendra Miller singled, tripled and also drove in three runs. Madalyn Hoskins doubled in two runs.
Havre de Grace 9, Elkton 0: Lilly Dalton threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as the Warriors won their opener. At the plate, Kinsey Mentzer hit two home runs and totaled five RBIs. Bayleigh Carstetter doubled twice, singled and drove in two.
Patterson Mill 6, Bel Air 3: Lily Baldwin went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs to pace the Huskies. Savannah Reedy singled, doubled and drove in a run. Izzy Hiebler and Ava Ward also drove in a run. Audrey March collected two hits.
North Harford 13, Aberdeen 2: The Hawks opened with four runs in the first, then put it away with eight in the third. Jenna Trezciak had two hits and three RBIs to lead the offense. Ashlie McMillan had two RBIs and Ava Wimer went 3-for-3
Westminster 13, River Hill 2: The Owls picked up their first win of the season behind Mallory Johnson’s three-hitter with six strikeouts. Offensively, Kaitlyn Clark had two hits and three RBIs. Bree Witter singled, doubled and drove in a run. Aislin Cole and Brianna Jeeter each added two RBIs.
Broadneck 18, Annapolis 0: Junior Addie Cornelius pitched a no-hitter striking out 11 batters and walking just one. The Bruins totaled 12 hits, led by Diana Owens going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Rylan Crisafulli, Bella Herrera and Grace Purdum all also had two RBIs.
Boys lacrosse
Springside Chesnut Hill 9, St. Mary’s 8: Cole Kucinski scored five goals, while fellow senior midfielder Ganon Cope dished off five assists as the Saints lost in overtime to the Philadelphia area school in a game played at Maryland Stadium in College Park.
Calvert Hall 20, Vandermont 8: Owen Scott poured in six goals to lead the Cardinals to the big win. Sisto Averno, Cody Collier and Preston Huffman each scored twice. Peyton Forte handed out four assists.
Bel Air 12, Harford Tech 5: The Bobcats built a 4-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Devin Trzeciak finished with a hat trick and Ayden Shugart backed him with two goals. Nine different Bobcats scored in the game.
Winters Mill 12, Manchester Valley 10: The Falcons edged the Mavericks in an early-season clash of county title contenders. Camden Deming scored five goals in the win, while Chase Oropollo and Reed Postlethwait each scored three. Sam Wivell also scored and Ryan Ritchey had an assist.
Girls lacrosse
Gerstell 12, Severn 7: The Falcons built a 9-4 halftime lead and cruised to the win. Reagan Ramsey totaled six points in the win, evenly split with three goals and three assists. Piper Gallagher had a team-high four goals.
Manchester Valley 20, Winters Mill 1: Taylor Fique accounted for 11 points with eight goals, a Carroll County high so far this season, and three assists. Emma Penczek finished with six pals. Natalie Bittinger and Emelyn Scott each scored twice. Natalie Burmeister and Carolyn Lowe each handed out three assists.
John Carroll 15, Fallston 8: A balanced offense carried the Patriots past the Cougars. Pieper McCue, Natalie Kelly and Annie Minoglio all had hat tricks in the win. Nine different Patriots scored goals.
Girls tennis
South Carroll 4, Century 1: The Cavaliers swept doubles play with wins coming from the teams of Audrey Lillycrop and Caroline Aliftaras, Callie Chesney and Brooklyn Weitzel, and Sophie Kebedy and Evelyn Cook. Sydney Mossman added a win at second singles.
Boys tennis
South Carroll 3, Century 2: Century’s Nolan Mailhot and Kaushik Inguva won the singles matches, but a doubles sweep carried the Cavaliers to the win. Wins came from Michael Mooney and Chase Loden, Alex Grabill and Joel Lee, and Riley Spencer and Sohan Pilli.
Manchester Valley 3, Francis Scott Key 2: August Jones cruised through his first singles win, 6-1, 6-0, and the Mavericks got doubles wins from the teams of Nick Phillips and Austin Zeigenfuse, and Kaeden Lo Forte and Matt Jule, each in third-set tiebreaks. FSK wins came from Jon Adcock in singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Evan Myers and Nathan Myers.
Coed tennis
Fallston 6, Harford Tech 5: In a tight match, a pair of three-set doubles wins turned the match in Fallston’s favor. Zach Boczar and Luca Cangelosi at No. 1 boys doubles, and Courtney Robinson and Campbell Wheeler at the No. 1 girls line, each won in tiebreakers. Lindsey Dettloff, Gwen Karantonis and Ashley Tran won singles matches. Camryn Barrett and Ryan Blair won mixed doubles.
North Harford 7, Joppatowne 2: Emma Clayton, Stella Manns and Jzaleilah Barroquillo combined to drop one game over their three matches as they swept girls singles play. Logan Harrity added a win at No. 1 boys singles. Mackenzie Mcann and Cara Dyke, and Arie Howell and Emily Johnson were among doubles winners.
