One member of the Orioles ball crew will join the team’s four nominated players at this weekend’s All-Star Game festivities, MLB announced.
Tyler Smith, 31, has been a ball boy for the Orioles since 2019. He is an elementary school teacher in Dillsburg, PA by day.
Smith was named a finalist for the role thanks to a play he made early this season. During the Orioles March 31 game against the Los Angeles Angels, Smith made an impressive pick of a line drive foul ball that caromed off the tarp located down the first-base line.
Smith was among four ball crew members named finalists to go to the Midsummer Classic. He joins the Tampa Bay Rays’ Braden Coles — whose diving scoop of a ground ball earned his nomination — as ball crew members for the game.
