On the day he was named a Gold Glove Award finalist, Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser underwent surgery to repair the left hand he fractured during their season-ending loss to the Kansas City Royals in Game 2 of the wild-card round.

The team announced that Dr. Donald Sheridan performed the surgery in Phoenix on Tuesday. Cowser is expected to be ready for spring training.

Baltimore’s 24-year-old put together a stellar first full season in the majors this year, slashing .242/.321/.447 with 24 home runs and nine stolen bases. Cowser, a candidate for the American League Rookie of the Year Award, joined the Cleveland Guardians’ Steven Kwan and the New York Yankees’ Alex Verdugo as Gold Glove finalists in left field Tuesday morning.

Cowser’s injury came in a pivotal spot of Game 2, when he came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cowser swung at a pitch up and in, striking out as the pitch caught him in the hand. He stayed in the game for one more inning before Heston Kjerstad replaced him in the field.
