After a close loss against No. 3 Iowa and superstar Caitlin Clark, Maryland women’s basketball bounced back quickly with a 67-59 win over Rutgers on Tuesday night in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Shyanne Sellers had 16 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for the Terps (13-10, 5-7 Big Ten), who led by as many as 18 before holding off a late rally by the Scarlet Knights (7-18, 1-11).

After Rutgers went on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 62-59 with two minutes left, Bri McDaniel hit four late free throws to help put the game away. McDaniel finished with 14 points, Jakia Brown-Turner continued her strong play of late by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds,  and Faith Masonius contributed six points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists in her return to her native New Jersey.

Eight players scored for the Terps, who shot 32.4% from the field and 30.8% from 3-point range but found success drawing fouls, finishing 19-for-28 from the free-throw line.

The Terps’ defense played a huge role in the victory, forcing 22 turnovers and recording 12 steals. Maryland also outrebounded Rutgers, 47-37, leading to a 25-12 edge in second-chance points.

Destiny Adams had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Rutgers, which has lost 14 of 15 meetings against Maryland since both schools joined the Big Ten in the 2014-15 season. Freshman Jillian Huerter, the younger sister of former Maryland and current Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter, scored nine points.
